India ranks lowest among south Asian countries in breastfeeding practices. Out of 26 million babies born in India, 14.5 million children are not able to get optimal feeding during their first year. And this leads to high infant mortality rate of 40 per 1000 live births in India.
Breastfeeding has immense benefits for mother and the baby. Mother's milk is the one and the only complete nutrition for the babies in the first 6 months of their life that protects them from wide variety of diseases and infections by building a strong immunity system.
